Rihanna let rip earlier this week
What’s it like when you go back to visit Barbados these days? Do you still have a lot of friends there? Are people mostly happy for you or do you get hated on a lot? A lot of them hate me, but a lot of them love me. I don’t really let the ones that hate me stop me from doing what I wanna do. They always have something to say about what I’m wearing, what I’m not wearing, like in the ”Umbrella” video. If I wear a swimsuit to the beach, it’s a problem, they put it on the front of the newspaper and call into programs. It really annoys me when people that I try to represent and I try to put them on the map as much as I can — you know, I didn’t have to put Tridents in my videos.
Put what in your videos? Trident, which is the symbol of the flag. I didn’t have to talk about them. I didn’t have to even mention that I’m from Barbados. But I do and people kind of take it for granted. They hate me. They talk s— about me all the time. But I’m like, ”Whatever. I’m still doing this cause I love to do it and you’re not going to stop me.”
You know, most Bajans are really proud of Rihanna, unfortunately it’s the ones who will always find something to gripe about who make the most noise. Bad news makes good press, and makes the call in programmes. I think she’s stretching the point when she says “A lot of them hate me..” I don’t think it goes for the majority of Bajans but then I’m not at the receiveing end of those comments.
It’s unfortunate that Rihanna now feels that she should only come home to visit friends and family and it would be a shame if she continued to feel this way . The fact of the matter is she is the most successful entertainer to come out of Barbados, and she didn’t have to push Barbados as much as she did.
We can only hope that she continues to promote us in the future.

I like Rihanna a lot. I admire the fact that she was able to slip into who she is as an entertainer so easily. I do not care how famous she thinks she is. Crying down one’s country is an absolute no-no.I’m a fellow barbadian and she rubbed me the wrong way. I saw several blogs where she is also duly hated by people all over the world. Simply because of how she dresses, with everything hanging out..especially on stage.Check for yourself on http://www.hollywoodtuna.com. True the call in program thing was ridiculous. But the fact remains that the way she was dressed was obviously shocking and in poor taste. Swimsuits are for the beach not restaurants.To Quote an avid fan, “Bajans don’t need to hate on Rihanna, the Americans have that covered.” En quote. So miss Riri, you better watch your self and Shut and Drive!!!

WEll, I have just read so many comments about Rihanna, I think you all should let the young lady do her thing, if she had stayed in Barbados you would have still crticised her. I am so proud of her, because she is an inspiring and worthy miss…..knowing that she is Barbadian and Guyanese desendant, I am indeed thrilled to have come across her music. I now see where she got her beauty, just shine Rihanna, life is like a pitching star when it pitches make the best of it. Good luck, bye.

Let me just say that in the entertainment industry one artist in never loved entirely. Rihanna’s handlers, advisors or whoever should have advised her that this was expected. True some of us Bajans are gudgeful and petty but I believe the majority are very happy for and proud of Rihanna. I will further say to her to keep you head up and keep out of trouble, not every bajan hates you majority of us love you and ignore the ones that hate. Most impotantly NEVER forget where you come from and stay humble

I am very proud of you. You have a beautiful body and if you want to flaunt it go right ahead. Your haters wish they were in your shoes today but they can’t because they are full of hate instead of being happy that someone from a small island can reach the height of they dreams with your talent.
Ignore them all and do your thing. There will always be haters. Barbados should be happy that you promote the Island the way you do you could have chosen too push Guyana instead. So princess good luck and do you.
Please stay focus and do not let the bright lights turn you down the dark road that so many talented stars go. Remember where you are from and what your parents taught you and thank God every day for your lucky stars.
Bajans that never got a chance to travel tends to have limited views and don’t seem to think beyond their noses and that is sad, there should be a way that most of them should get a break to get out of the small town to gain some knowledge.
People need to realize that in your business there are job guidelines in order to make it and they need to be more open minded. Your are not smoking pot and drinking and getting drunk. Your are doing your JOB – Leave the young girl alone. They are just jealous.
Rihanna I love who you are and what you stand for. Your are smart beyond your years and you make me proud. Just shine my lady.
To your parents – Your raised your daughter now let her explore her dreams – Forget the haters they need to put that energy into something to build themselves some dreams. You should be proud of Rihanna.

Do you want to know the real reason why so many Barbadians hate her so much? Simple. They are too “bad minded”. Let’s not fool ourselves here people! When a Barbadian criticizes someone, in very few instances do they do it out of a genuine need to see that person reform whatever flaw they are highlighting so that that person becomes better. Most of the time, Bajans employ critism to highlight something inferior about a person and to use that inferiority as a horrific weapon against that person’s self esteem and self worth. In other words, to shoot that person down. That’s why the modern Barbadian has evolved into such a secretive individual. You can’t let know one know you are building your house cause they’ll stop at nothing to retard your progress. You can’t let no one know that you’re bying a new car cause when you get it, they are going to give you the loveliest scratch you’ve ever seen on a new car. Most of all you can’t let no one know who your boyfriend or girlfriend is cause ” dem gine thief e’ from yuh good as a rusty cent.” I tell yuh.

People who did not go to school with her or have any personal contact with her hate her, that is just stupid. However, i have friends who were personally cursed by her for STUPID reasons and i think that is unfair, i never really had anything bad to say about her, i actually like some of her songs, but u cant blame some bajans (the ones who actually met her) for hating her, they just probably didnt like her attitude towards them, anywho, i hope she does well, and as for where she comes from, i think shes already forgotten, and by the way,yuh kno the trident u didnt have to put in your video, yea, ITS ACTUALLY BROKEN. She must be the best thing that ever happened to Barbados. I like her music and she’s ok….but like everything else in Hollywood…she will fade at some point…just hope she’s saving that money.

Rihanna is living a life that many desire today including myself. I am proud of her because she is the 1st Barbadian star that is known world wide. I am still amazed by her. It’s great that she’s living HER dream. Rihanna congrats, I don’t think that you got lucky, it IS your destiny! People, no need to hate, it destroys ur spirit.

I love Rihanna´s music she has a wonderful voice.but i dont no what to think of he as yet.when she started singing I instantly liked her,but as she became more famous she has changed.so thats why i dont know what to think of her.it´s true her mother is from guyana(thats where the beautiful body and her talent came from)and her father is from abrbados so i think she should promote those two countries a bit more.\and she should also stay humble.I identfy with her because i am 20 years old to and want to follow in her footsteps and also my idol is her boyfriend Chris Brown.

Dispite what people say I think Rihanna has got talent, if she didn’t she would not be successful… Am I wrong???
But as for the Bajan making comments and hating on her… Thats unfortunately how some of them are.. Being of Bajan desent my self I know how they can make their comments which can be hurtful and gossip…

I have “found” Rihanna just lately but I’m already totally in love with her. She’s so beautiful and her voice is amazing as well. I just hope she would start to use more real instruments on her albums instead of synthesizers and drummachines.
