Notes From The Margin

In Support of Adrian Loveridge

We indirectly received a copy of Adrian Loveridge’s letter to the Prime Minister regarding the near constant death threats that appear online from BFPE. We have published the letter as part of our blog not because we support Mr. Loveridge in all aspects of everything he does, but on the principle that there are some things that should never be tolerated.

BFPE has issued threats and hurled racial invective since they began. They purport to be Government supporters but it is not altogether clear that they are, as they are an embarrassment to the Government. (Or to any organisation that they support) While the threats have to a large degree been directed at BFP, who have the benefit of anonymity, a large portion of them have been directed at Adrian Loveridge, who has had the temerity to disagree with and criticise the Government on several issues.

While some may advance the argument that BFPE is a harmless looney who is not to be taken seriously, we on the margin know that if those threats were directed at us we would take them very seriously. People standing at our funeral wringing their hands and saying “I didn’t think he was serious…” would be very cold comfort.

Mr. Loveridge should make a formal report to the police of the death threats, and also Mr. Arthur should make a public statement condemming the threats. Not to do so, sets a dangerous precedent in Barbadian politics, where we have been fortunate not to have a history of violence.

There should be zero tolerance for the behaviour exhibited by BFPE and its cohorts. And because of this we are publishing Mr. Loveridge’s letter.

The Right Honourable Owen S. Arthur, Prime Minister

Sir,

Two days ago the brother of the Chief Justice, Mr. Peter Simmons, telephoned me at our hotel to voice concern about any possible linkages between himself or brother, and what can only be described as almost daily death threats against myself and wife. Most of these death threats and similar vows to burn down our hotel have been placed on two very popular blogs: Barbados Free Press and Barbados Underground. Barbados Free Press recently advised that they have identified at least one of the death threats to IP: 69.73.212.201 timed at 10.39pm (GMT) on 28th. December 2007

I understand that with the assistance of the Police and Cable and Wireless, it is possible to trace the sender (s) of these deeply offensive threats which are often linked to pornographic websites and contain explicit vile comments.

While, we may not entirely share the same views on every subject, I am sure you would not condone this sort of behaviour and I would respectfully ask for your assistance to initiate a Police investigation into this matter.

I promise you my full co-operation to track down this person (s). During the nearly 20 years of residence on Barbados, my wife and I have tried to make a useful contribution to our field of endeavour, tourism.

Of the 106 hotels on Barbados rated by the worlds most visited website, TripAdvisor, Peach and Quiet, is currently ranked #2, which are entirely based on actual guests comments.

I thank you for considering this matter and wish you and your family a healthy and happy 2008.

  1. Mr. Loveridge has apparently reported it to the Prime Minister IN WRITING. That is a formal report!

While the world watches nothing is being done! People around the world are reading the language on BFPE. What are they going to think of Barbados?

  2. Further following up. We received this from Mr. Loveridge as a copy of a fax sent to the Commissioner of Police.

  3. Notes From The Margin,

You mean the same Commissioner of Police Darwin Dottin who is pictured on the header of the BFP blog and called a “corrupt fool”?

I can think of a very good three word reply which Mr. Dottin can give to Adrian Loveridge.

    Observer Of Hypocrites.

  4. MASSIVE crowd of 9,000 to 10,000 attended Carlisle Carpark launch of BLP candidates. Video broadcast streamed live on internet.

Much smaller crowd of 1,600 to 2,000 at what was supposed to be DLP manifesto launch, but manifesto was NOT released. DLP says it will be ready on Wednesday. Only some audio broadcast on internet. No video.

  5. You know recieving death threats is not a nice thing, I have recieved my share of them, and you cant run in a corner and hide, you got to take bold action. I will help Mr Loveridge even if they threaten to come to the UK and threaten me with Death threats, but i am an old hand now, and i am am sure i can silence the threats, you have to make some specific threats back…i mean take the politicals steps to isolate who you identitfy as the originator and the person capable of stopping the threats and you go after them.. and this seems to be at the level of the Prime Minister and you go after him, there is no way he doesnt know what is going on and publicly accuse him of conspiracy to murder…there are a few others, i am sure as well, Mr Duiguid begin a good candidate, but if you fall abreast to a genuine criminal element you have got to reasess, and always give yourself political cover, but in a conspiracy you have to go for the head.

I will help Mr Loveridge get in to contact with him and show him how these threats actually make him stronger politically, and he use them against the prime minister, so they have to shut up and take a different course…but that takes nerves of steal and a game of who blinks first. I will look at these threats and analyse them, just in time for the elections hopefully and make an issue of them. Here’s the principle when they hurl the threat at you find a way to turn it back so it bommerangs it back.

There’s always the chance that they make it look like an accident, and this is what you must guard against too, but i dont want to disclose a strategy there, that will have to be in private with Mr Loveridge. So Mr loveridge quickly get in contact with me and together if you mention my name it will count for a little bit of protection…but believe you me it these very reasons that i had to take a break from politics, but am now read to return.

They already got mu ip address today with that horrible honey trap site BFPE. And i propose the first thing you do is shut it down because it is logging the ip address of all the people who would come and might ordinarily comment and might accidentally go there. Get a good lawyer get a good hacker and bring the site down… you can get a good hacker in ten minutes to find the physical location of the site, the administrator of the site and the poster of death threats, if it is in a government building, or in an individual linked to governement follow the lead.I kid you not get that horrible rag of a site down the BFPE.

  6. I notice the death threats have started to appear again and still absolutely nothing from the Royal Barbados Police Force.

    Doesn’t it make you think?

  7. Ever since that political meeting in Oistins, which Mr. Loveridge and his wife attended, and claimed that he was attacked, I have viewed him and his motives with great suspicion.

You see,at the meeting, I was standing very close to Mr. and Mrs.Loveridge, and nothing like what was reported next day in the Election Express, a Nation Publication, actually happened. I have never once said anything about this, except that I personally called Mr. Loveridge and asked him kindly to go to the press and explain exactly what happened. As far as I could see, and I was very near, neither Mr. Loveridge nor his wife were ever in any danger. As a matter of fact, when they left the meeting, they both walked right in front of me, crossed the street and went calmly and safely in a south easterly direction to their vehicle. There was nobody following them, and it did not seem to me that anybody was interested in them!

What happened in the vicinity where they and I were standing, one of the Oistins Characters appeared to have become a little inebriated, and he was causing a mild ruckus in the crowd. He did gesture towards Loveridge, but not in any threatening manner, and somebody else took the man to task for his behaviour. He soon calmed down.

So you could imagine my consternation, my disbelief the next morning, when I saw a report by one Emmanuel Joseph that Loveridge and his wife were attacked and put to flight at a BLP Meeting in Oistins by a disorderly group of BLP supporters!!

Mr Loveridge may not remember my phone call(it was so long ago now) but when I spoke to him on the phone and requested him to exercise a sense of responsibility, and not to let the lying report stand, he muttered something about his not being responsible for how matters are reported in the news.

The important thing though was that he seemed to agree with my account of what happened, especially when I told him that I closely watched him and his wife walk away right in front of me, unharmed, unfettered, unmolested, uneverything!! I remeber telling him that I was so alrmed at the newspaper report, that I just felt compelled to call him.

I next called Mr. Emmanuel Joseph (if my memeory serves me right, I called him at his then office at the Insurance Company where he was working) and he told me he had no time to speak to me, since he was hurrying to an appointment. After those type of responses from both Joseph and Loveridge, I did not see any point in pursuing the matter and I got back to dealing with matters of much greater prioity in my life.

However, it was a very good manifestation to me of how certain media practitioners can completely distort various pieces of “news” essentially in the name of sensationalism, and ultimately to obtain exponential sales of newspapers. IT IS SO DISGUSTING AND SHAMEFUL SOMETIMES!
