Notes From The Margin

Sometimes I don’t enjoy being right…

Barbados Free Press really dropped the ball today having gone BIG on Veco appointing a convicted felon as CEO. They had to execute an embarrasing climb down today when it turned out that Daniel E. Armel (CEO of Veco Corp.) is not the same guy as Daniel E. Armel (convict).

What would have been really classy is to make the correction the lead story on BFP and update the original story, but instead BFP opted to bury the correction in the original story, four stories down from the top of the page. It remains unclear exactly when the update was put but the dates on the comments would indicate that it was sometime after several stories were already ahead of the “corrected” headline. In this position it’s not immediately obvious when you hit the page how big a screw up it was. I picked it up by looking at the comments in the right hand column. Not a a huge mea culpa but I guess it will have to do.

I was going to do a story tonight about the first time a mainstream media house had quoted a Barbados related blog unfortunately I’ve had to come on here and do this instead.
